4 Health Tips to Remember

Good health can be achieved with lifestyle medicine. Making a few simple changes in your diet, learning and practicing stress management, and getting regular exercise can do so much. To assist you with turning that knowledge into results, here’s a short list of suggestions for health and wellness.

Get Clean

Some people rely on substances like prescription drugs, alcohol, or illicit drugs for problems like pain management, stress management, or even as an escape. If you want to be healthier but aren’t sure you can do it on your own, it’s okay to ask for help! You can get that help by checking into a drug detox program. Ridding your body of poisonous chemicals and harmful toxins is one way to get healthier. We’re not saying this will be the easiest thing on this list, but it’s definitely worth it in the end.

Sleep

Getting a great night’s sleep can do quite a bit to make you healthier. If you’ve been having issues with sleeping, try a few relaxation techniques like yoga or meditation. You might also try a smallish bedtime snack of foods that have been shown to assist the mind and body when it comes to getting into sleep mode. These include chamomile tea, cherries, oatmeal, or whole grain cereal and milk. Make your room darker and make sure your clock has been turned away from you. Write down any stressful thoughts or worries so that they get on the page and out of your head. This allows you the chance to put them into perspective so that you’ll be able to quit worrying about them.

Daily Exercise

Are you aware that exercising daily can reduce the number of biomarkers that go hand in hand with aging? These biomarkers include improving bone density, lowering cholesterol, improving lean muscle, and normalizing blood pressure, just to name a few. If you want to live well and for a long time, exercise is critical. Even exercising for a mere 10 minutes can have an impact, so get up and move. Crank up your stereo and have a dance session right in your living room. Sign yourself up for ballroom or swing dance lessons. Take a walk in the park or around the block with a neighbor who you’d like to catch up with or with your kids. Play hopscotch or jump rope. There is a long list of things you can do to get a bit more exercise into your daily life!

Eat Your Veggies

We should all try to get in at least 5 servings of veggies on a daily basis. They should be either stir-fried, raw, or steamed. A diet that is rich in vegetables has been associated with a reduction in the risk of ovarian, pancreatic, bladder, and stomach cancers. Additionally, a lot of the very powerful phytonutrients just happen to be the ones that are found in the brightest colored vegetables – like leafy greens, radishes, tomatoes, and carrots.

Wanting to be healthier is always a good thing and, as you can see, it doesn’t even have to be difficult. Just watch what you put into your body, make sure that you move enough, and get good sleep and you’ll be well on your way to a healthier you.
